Interlibrary Loan Program
When an item is not available within the Library System of Lancaster County, patrons can request the item through Interlibrary Loan. Simply visit the Ephrata Public Library, and ask a librarian for assistance.
What is Interlibrary Loan?
An Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a transaction in which material from one library is made available to another library upon request. Through ILL, it is possible to obtain materials from almost anywhere in Pennsylvania. The term "material" includes all formats, i.e., books, photocopies, non-fiction videos, etc. Interlibrary Loan cannot obtain the following items:
Best Sellers and newly published materials (within 12 months)
Titles owned locally (within the Library System of Lancaster County)
Issues/volumes of periodicals and journals
Books-on-tape, Fiction Videos, and Compact Disks
Rare Books, special collection and archival materials
Licensed computer software data files
The Ephrata Public Library will use Interlibrary Loan only as a request made to a library outside the Library System of Lancaster County. A request from one LSLC library to another is called a reserve.
Frequently Asked Questions About IIL
Why use Interlibrary Loan?
The purpose of Interlibrary Loan is to obtain materials not available in the collections of member libraries of the Library System of Lancaster County. This includes materials on loan to patrons, reference materials, Lancaster Collection materials, or materials in other non-circulating collections.
Who may request an Interlibrary Loan?
Any adult patron (in good standing) may make a request for an Interlibrary Loan item. The patron must be 18 years or older, and may not have any fines, fees, or overdue material on their account.
How do I request an Interlibrary Loan?
To request an Interlibrary Loan please visit the Ephrata Public Library, and a librarian will assist you to fill out the necessary requests forms.
Does it cost anything?
Every effort will be made to obtain requested materials at no cost; however, any costs incurred by the Interlibrary Loan Department will be passed on to the patron. Therefore, please be sure to indicate on the Interlibrary Loan form how much you are willing to pay for a requested item. Lending fees range from $5.00 to $20.00. Medical articles usually have fees that are $12.00 and up.
