The Library received a grant from the Bee Cause Project and the Whole Kids Foundation for an indoor observation beehive. The hive is a safe way for kids to see honeybees in action.

Why are the bees vanishing?

The honeybee population has been in steady decline. There are a number of factors that may be contributing to the collapse of so many bee colonies including overuse of pesticides, global warming, genetically modified crops and other environmental issues.

Are bees dangerous?

An observation hive is sealed except for a small hole that goes straight to the outdoors. As children learn about these amazing insects, they quickly develop a sense of ownership for their bees. Children's awareness of and respect for the natural world increases.

The Bee Cause Project is a not-for-profit whose mission is to stimulate curiosity in young people about the importance of honeybees in our lives and the need to understand and embrace them. Through the installation of beehives in schools and nonprofit organizations, the project aims to encourage young people to care about the well-being of the honeybee and protect their future.
